“Recovery
Now” Conference Spotlights New Hope for Individuals who Experience Mental
Health Problems
The Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, United
Survivors Support Centre, and Durham Mental Health Services (DMHS) have
teamed up to host RECOVERY NOW, a conference for consumers of mental health
services, their families, and mental health service providers on Monday
April 26 at the Whitby Centennial Building. This conference is generously
sponsored by Seamless Care Pharmacy.
People can and do live meaningful, fulfilling
lives despite experiencing mental health problems. The recovery vision is a
set of attitudes, principles and practices that leads to new opportunities
for individuals who experience mental health problems and new relationships
between consumers of mental health services and service providers.
RECOVERY NOW conference attendees will learn
about the recovery vision, see how local organizations are responding, hear
from consumers and family members, and practice applying the spirit of
recovery to their own lives.
Featured speakers include representatives from
Durham
Mental Health Services,
Ontario
Peer Development Initiative,
Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences,
Schizophrenia Society of Ontario, and
Stand Up for Mental Health –
The Self-Help Alliance of Waterloo Wellington
DMHS Executive Director Rob Adams says “Mental
health services need to do more than treat illness. They need to help people
live the lives they want to live in spite of any mental health problems. The
recovery vision shows a way forward for consumers and service providers
alike.”
