DMHS Congratulates TAMI Coalition Speaker Megan Lummiss on Receiving the Prestigious Kaiser Foundation 2010 Excellence in Youth Leadership Award
The Kaiser
Foundation is a national organization dedicated to raising awareness of
mental health and addictions. Their National Awards for Excellence Program
recognizes outstanding accomplishments among the thousands of Canadians in
communities large and small who are helping take mental illness and
addictions out of the shadows. Each Award recipient receives a $10,000 grant
to be given to a recognized charity of their choice.
DMHS
congratulates local mental health champion Megan Lummiss on receiving the
Kaiser Foundation’s 2010 Excellence in Youth Leadership Award. Ms. Lummiss
is a speaker with the Talking About Mental Illness (TAMI) Coalition, an
alliance of community agencies, school boards, youth, people with mental
illness and other community members that educates young people across Durham
Region about mental illness. Through TAMI’s efforts, young people learn to
recognize the signs of mental health problems, know that help is available,
and respond with knowledge and compassion if they or others in their lives
experience mental health problems.
